If you want to visit a museum, you have different options. The Museum of Fine Arts Juan B. Castagnino is the most important art center in the country, it is located in the area of Independence Park. And the other museum important in the city is the Rosario Contemporary Art Museum (MACRO), it’s an annex of the Museum of Fine Arts Juan B. Castagnino. It is located across the Parana River.

The Museum of Fine Arts was opened to the public on December 7, 1937.The building was donated to the city by Rosa Tiscornia de Castagnino, in memory of his son, Juan Bautista, a noted art collector from the early twentieth century and the first member of the City Hall Commission of Fine Arts in Rosario. His collection has approximately 3000 works, a heritage took over 80 years to build.

The collection brings together an important number of paintings, sculptures and a series of emblematic engravings of Argentine art of the nineteenth and twentieth century European and valuable pieces from different periods. It specializes in art and provides a valuable and varied bibliography, which consists of books, slides, videos, CDs and brochures.

The Rosario Contemporary Art Museum is an annex of the Museum of Fine Arts Juan B. Castagnino. Its history dates back to years ago when Antorchas Foundation offered a donation of 27 works selected by the current Director of Malba, Marcelo Pacheco.

Its structure is that of an old silo. It is located across the Parana River, and it was designed by Ermete Lorenzi, one of the most important local architects of the twentieth century. The facade was painted on the basis of a project chosen by the national competition in 2003, owned by the local architect Cynthia Prieto.

The museum contains the most important Argentine contemporary art collection. It also includes contemporary art work of various artists who led the artistic developments of the twentieth century.

The City Museum, the Museum of Sciences and the Memorial Museum, among others, are some of the many that the city offers. If you want to visit them you should call the tourist information centers to ask for more information.
